Last March, we received an email from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The client was a local household products wholesaler supplying supermarkets and convenience stores in the city and surrounding provinces.
He had a problem. He had ordered a batch of plastic storage cabinets from another Chinese supplier, planning to launch them in early April for a local promotion. But that supplier just told him they couldn't meet the deadline – delay of at least three weeks.
His inventory was nearly empty. The promotional flyers were already printed. He asked us: can you deliver in 15 days?
We reviewed the specs and packaging he sent. It was a three-tier plastic storage cabinet – nothing too complicated, but the color and packaging were custom. His previous supplier had matched a specific light gray color, which would normally require new color sampling.
Our sales manager called him the same day to confirm the details:
Quantity: 1,200 units
Color: light gray (need color matching)
Packaging: color box + master carton, printed with his brand
Deadline: April 5, arrival in Ho Chi Minh City
Normally, color sampling takes 3-5 days, production 10-12 days, plus shipping. 15 days was almost impossible.
But we took the order. Why? We had white cabinets in stock – close to his size. We proposed a solution: keep the main body white, but make the front panels and top cover light gray. No new molds, just color change on those parts. That saved at least a week.
He agreed. We arranged color samples that afternoon, got confirmation the next day, and started production on day three.
During production, we sent him daily photos and videos – from injection molding to assembly to packaging. He also moved fast on his side, preparing customs documents in advance so the goods could be picked up as soon as they arrived.
The shipment reached his warehouse in Ho Chi Minh City on April 3 – two days ahead of his deadline.
He sent us a message later: the cabinets were already on supermarket shelves, and the promotion was running. He said, "You are the first supplier who said 'we can do it' and actually did it."
This case reminded us: sometimes clients don't need the cheapest price. They need a supplier who shows up when it matters.
