OTTAWA —
Plastic manufacturers in the country have set their own targets to exclude all plastics from Canadian landfills by 2030.
Just a few days before the federal government asked other G7 countries to sign an international commitment to keep the world consistent on plastic pollution, plastic pollution harms marine life, and in the United States, garbage islands can form a larger ocean than many countries.
Isabel des Chesnes, executive vice president
The president of the Canadian Chemical Industry Association said that the targets were in part to go beyond government regulation as Canada was in the consultative phase of a national strategy to curb plastic pollution.
\"I think it shows that as a responsible care company, we have to keep trying to do better,\" she said . \".
Together with the Canadian Plastics Industry Association, the chemical Association identified 2030 as a deadline to ensure that all plastics produced in Canada can be recycled into new products or recycled.
The two organizations jointly released their own goals to make all plastics recyclable or recyclable by 2030.
2040, they want all the plastic to be reusable, recyclable or recyclable.
Reusable plastics are those that can be cleaned and reused for the original purpose. Most single-
The use of plastic bottles cannot now be reused because they are easily decomposed or degraded and bacteria cannot be properly cleaned from plastic bottles.
Recyclable plastics are those that can be melted and mixed with raw materials to make new products such as clothing, sleeping bags, carpets and decorative materials.
Recyclable plastics are those that are broken down into parts and often used as raw materials for making energy.
The 2030 target set by the plastics industry is five years longer than the 2025 zero plastic waste request made by more than 40 environmental groups and other non-environmental groups on Monday
Government organization.
These groups, including environmental protection, the Sierra Club of Canada and the David Suzuki Foundation, outlined some of the steps Canada should take in the National Plastics program, including the absence of plastic into the landfill within seven years.
Canada hopes to gain G7 influence in global efforts to eliminate plastic pollution, and this week will submit a plastic charter to G7 leaders at the Quebec summit.
Environmental Minister Catherine McKenna has previously said that the charter will include four main components: the goal of reducing the production of plastic waste, the domestic strategy to achieve these goals, and working with industry, develop better products to replace plastics or make them easier to recycle and help the developing world adapt to better waste management.
McKenzie said Canadians are worth more than $100 million a year in plastic waste discarded each year and will eventually only be thrown into the dump.
Some private companies, including Pepsi and McDonald\'s, have released plans to cut plastic use, and countries such as Britain and France have taken steps to ban certain single plastic products.
Use plastics such as straws and cutlery.
On April, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was criticized for not imposing any such ban in Canada before the G7 plastic charter program.
Des Chenes said that banning plastic straws would not actually be of great help to reduce plastic pollution, but would help raise public concerns about their role in reducing plastic waste.
It is \"ambitious\" not to put any plastics into landfill sites by 2030, but it is realistic if governments at all levels provide favorable policy and financial support to help develop new technologies and more innovative products.
There are some obstacles to this goal, because many plastics are not easy to recycle now, and municipal recycling projects often reject many types of plastics because they are difficult to recycle or recycle.
